Abstract

A spin diode device for mesoscopic electronics and spintronics is analyzed theoretically. The device consists of a single-level quantum dot connected to two ferromagnetic leads—one of them being half-metallic. Transport characteristics of the system are analyzed in terms of the nonequilibrium Green function technique. When intrinsic spin relaxation time on the dot is long enough, transport characteristics of the system are typical of a diode.
