Abstract

We investigated the magnetic properties of 26 nm thick Cr layers of an (1 1 0)-oriented Fe/Cr multilayer. Neutron diffraction measurements reveal that the commensurate spin-density wave is the stable phase at 300 K with the Cr polarization being perpendicular to the Fe magnetization. In the temperature range from 225 to 175 K we observe a phase transition to the incommensurate spin-density wave.
