Abstract
The photonuclear sum rule of Gerasimov is revisited and found to be violated for both a Dirac particle and spin current contributions. For a relativistic particle a modified sum rule is derived which is consistent with the Gell-Mann, Goldberger, and Thirring sum rule. In the case of nonrelativistic spin currents, violation of causality leads to a strong violation of dispersion sum rules.NUCLEAR REACTIONS Photonuclear sum rule, spin current contributions, dispersion relations.
