Abstract

A theory is developed for the Raman scattering of light from insulating spin glasses, and other disordered magnetic systems, that can be represented by a distribution of non-interacting spin clusters. The scattering cross section is expressed in terms of a dynamical magnetic susceptibility for the relaxation modes of the spin clusters, and the corresponding spectral lineshape is calculated.
