Abstract
We discuss the higher-dimensional generalization of gravitationalinstantons by using volume-preserving vector fields. We give specialattention to the case of eight dimensions and present a new construction ofthe Ricci-flat metric with holonomy in Spin(7). An example of the metricis explicitly given. Furthermore, it is shown that our formulation has a naturalinterpretation in the Chern-Simons theory written by the language ofsuperconnections.
