Abstract

We appreciate the comments by Dr. Day on our case report. We are aware that, in hepatic encephalopathy, sharp waves in EEG can be abolished, and background activity is slowed by benzodiazepines.1 In our patient, sharp waves disappeared after benzodiazepine administration. However, the emerged background activity was near-normal.2 Besides this, in our patient, sharp waves were always higher in amplitude, and the sharp and slow wave complexes lasted regularly and continuously. These are characteristic EEG features of epileptic spike-wave discharges rather than metabolic triphasic waves.
