Abstract

1. A method was proposed for calculating spherical microlens elements (MLE) attached to the distal end of a light conductor. The method allows calculation of the radius of curvature of the sphere, which reduces to allowable level the likelihood of perforation of blood vessel wall during laser angioplasty. Critical values of the radius of curvature were calculated which correspond to qualitative changes in the light distribution pattern at the output of the MLE.
