Covering circular structures with spherical domes is at least as old as the Roman Pantheon, whose roof is 60 in. thick. The modern construction procedures and techniques discussed in this article, producing high strength with thicknesses of only a few inches, can perhaps provide a low‐cost alternative for covering distribution facilities.
