Abstract

Extracts from human endometrium were found to inhibit the synthesis of DNA in HeLa-cells. Such an inhibitory effect was not evident in cultures of other types of cells and seemed to be cell-specific. Myometrial extracts had no inhibitory effect; instead, they stimulated the uptake of 3H-thymidine in all the types of cells studied. We postulate that the inhibitory factor observed in the endometrium is identical with Weiss “anti-template” and Bullough's “chalone”.
