Abstract

Epigenetics refers to heritable changes in gene expression that do not involve changes in the underlying DNA sequence. One of the most studied mechanisms of epigenetic change is DNA methylation. It is postulated that adverse outcomes related to advanced paternal age and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) are due to epigenetic changes. Prior studies have described accurate age estimation based on human somatic cell DNA methylation. We sought to evaluate the DNA methylation patterns of somatic cells and sperm from fertile men and men with idiopathic infertility.
