Abstract

To the Editor.— Although it is a small detail, the repeated misspelling ofMunchhausen(eg, 1982;248:3008) is somewhat irritating. Baron Munchhausen is a famous figure in German literature. His name obviously consists of two names. (As is so frequently the case in German, you can put nouns next to each other and make a new noun.) The first part of the name isMunchand ends with ach, which is practically an independent letter of the alphabet (similar to the Greekchi). The second part of the name ishausen, obviously derived fromHaus, ie, a house. The name is related toMunchen(Munich). To drop anhmakes not only an awkward word, but also reminds one of Eliza inMy Fair Lady.
