Abstract

The writer kept a record of spelling errors found in written assignments of 97 student teachers enrolled at Hunter College of the City of New York during a period of six consecutive terms, from the spring term of 1954 through the fall term of 1956. These 97 students comprised the total number of student teachers assigned to the writer during six five-month terms. The words misspelled by these students were recorded from an av?ra g e of nine written assignments per term. No record was kept of the number of times any one word was misspelled by the same student, but a count was made of the number of students who misspelled the same word.
