Abstract

Basic requirement of any electric vehicle is that it must have its drive train working efficiently and effectively because as it is well known that efficient drive is needed in order to meet vehicle constraints such as initial acceleration, long constant power range and it is achieved through proper controlling. So if drive of electric vehicle is controlled properly then they are capable of producing higher efficient and work effectively with same power ratings as well. As there were well known existing advantages in PMSM and PMBLDC motors they are preferred over other motor for propelling any electric vehicle. But increasing in cost of permanent magnet and problems related to fast demagnetization these motors have been difficult in use. The switched reluctance motor has merits for special applications like electric vehicle and is the 'dark horse' in this race and because of its robust, simple and rugged construction, ability of extremely high-speed operation, and hazard-free operation and is now becoming prior choice for EV application..
