Abstract
Engineering the elegant glass and steel grid shell that envelops two hotel buildings and part of a Formula 1 racetrack in the emirate of Abu Dhabi required multiple design iterations, each bringing the design team closer to the desired aesthetic and functional goals for the dramatic veil-like structure. Civil Engineering presents the painstaking step-by-step process by which the design of this unique structure was achieved.
