Abstract

A i ms: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the speech and language development of children in prelinguistic period born in in vitro fertilization (IVF) and spontaneous conception. Background: IVF children are one of the precious children parents ever have. Parents are much concerned on their beloved children in respect to physical, behavioral and development status. Settings and Design: A analytic, descriptive, crosssectional was performed in Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Science and Research, West Bengal. Subjects and Methods: Prelinguistic behavior of 150 full term IVF children and 150 spontaneously conceived matched controlled children of West Bengal was studied form June 2010 to June 2012. Questionnaires were given to the parents and requested them to fulfill it. The questionnaire was designed according to Early Language Milestone Scale-2 (ELM-2). Statistical Analysis Used: Data were analyzed by using Chi-square test. Results: No statistically significant difference found between to IVF and spontaneously conceived children ( P > 0.05). Conclusions: This study showed that speech and language development of IVF children are not affected by IVF.
