Abstract

Experimental results are presented showing both cancellation and enhancement of the specular reflection off a partially transparent ordinary plane mirror in the presence of a phase-conjugate mirror. The intensities measured lay in the range 6–513% of the original specular reflection, the maximum extent of cancellation occurring for a phase-conjugate reflectivity of unity. Single-domain photorefractive crystals of barium titanate operating by means of degenerate four-wave mixing acted as the phase-conjugate mirrors.
