Abstract

In “Spectrums: Autistic Transgender People in Their Own Worlds,” Maxfield Sparrow presents a collection of personal essays and poems written by autistic and transgender individuals. This book highlights the intersectionality of neurodivergence and gender divergence, as the personal narratives touch on a variety of topics, such as coming out, childhood experiences, building relationships, hardships, and more. Sparrow, who also identifies as autistic and trans, was motivated to create this piece due to the current lack of research that addresses the intersectionality of being both autistic and transgender. Through this book, Sparrow hopes to shed light on the lived experiences of trans and autistic individuals.
