Abstract

Antibodies against O-antigens of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were determined in various preparations of immunoglobulins and in serum from healthy persons. Pure preparations of the lipopolysaccharides of the 17 O-serotypes were used as an antigen. An ELISA technique for determination of antibodies of the IgG, IgA and IgM classes was developed. Seven immunoglobulin products for intravenous use (five normal ones, two hyperimmunoglobulins) from five different manufacturers and two immunoglobulins for intramuscular application from two different companies were analyzed. The content of anti O-antibodies in non-hyperimmunoglobulin preparations was above that of the healthy adults for all O-antigens. In the hyperimmunoglobulin preparations, the concentration against O-serotypes most frequent in nosocomial infections with P. aeruginosa was disproportionately elevated.
