Abstract
A high-resolution grating spectrometer with no moving parts is described. The dispersive element consists of four echelle gratings mounted so that the light is diffracted in series. Wavelength scanning is accomplished by varying the density of the gas filling the monochromator housing. Rayleigh-Brillouin spectra of gases at various pressures recorded with the spectrometer illustrate the performance of the instrument.
