Abstract
The driplines mark the limits of the known parts of the chart of nuclides, mainly because of the lifetimes becoming very short. The interest lies not only in discovering and researching as many nuclides as possible, but in studying the validity of nuclear structure models such as the shell model far away from the valley of stability. Besides using heavy ions, nuclear reactions induced by exotic (often radioactive) nuclei have become useful tools, which became feasible with the advent of RIB (radioactive—or rare ion-beam) facilities worldwide.
