Abstract
Resonance Raman (rR) and Ultraviolet Photoelectron (UP) spectra are reported for the complexes [(CO) 5MM′(CO) 3(α-diimine)] (M,M'Mn,Re) which all possess an intensive absorption band in the visible region. The rR spectra show that this band has to be reassigned to a d Π(M′)→Π* (α-diimine) transition. These results as well as those obtained from the UP spectra have been used to derive and energy vs distortion diagram by which the various photochemical reactions can be understood.
