Abstract

The NO-Ar van der Waals complex has been generated in the molecular beam. The complex in the E2Σ+ state has been studied by using the resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization technique with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Two sort of excitations spectra have been measured; one is the E2Σ+-X2II excitation spectrum and the other is the E2Σ+ - A2Σ+ excitation spectrum. The 0-0 band of the complex is red-shifted by 496.8 cm-1- from that of bare NO. The binding energy of NO (E2Σ+)-Ar is determined to be 585 cm-1 and the progression due to the stretching van der Waals mode measured is extremely complex. The results are compared with those obtained for NO (A2Σ+)-Ar and NO+ (X1Σ+)-Ar complexes.
