Abstract

A study of the i.r., n.m.r., and u.v. spectra of diacylbenzoylmethanes and acyldibenzoylmethanes, in which only two of the three acyl groups are involved in the hydrogen-bonded chelate ring, has shown that the benzoyl group is not involved in the enolic system. The reason for this has been shown to be steric and not electronic.
