Abstract

Retinoid molecules are chromophore and have the possibility for the application to create novel nano-devices. Retinal is one of the retinoid molecules. In this work, we observed absorption, excitation and fluorescence spectra of LB films of retinal. The absorption peaks in the spectra of the LB films are shifted to the shorter wavelength comparing the spectra of solutions. The blue shift of the peak would be due to the aggregation. In the fluorescence spectra of the LB films, the emission peak appeared which is not found in the spectra in solutions. The peak would be due to the formation of the complex like the excimer.
