Abstract
We propose to use the lanthanide complex Eu:Y(acac)3(DPEPO) as an inert analogue to explosive molecular crystals for subsurface spectroscopy. In this study we perform material and spectroscopic characterization of this complex and consider the effects of thermal- and photo-degradation on the complex's spectroscopic properties. These measurements will be baseline results for future studies on these reactions when the complex is embedded inside of a heterogeneous material.
