Abstract

LaAlO3 monocrystal doped with 0.5wt% Tm3+ ions was grown by the Czochralski method. Absorption, emission and emission decay time were measured at 5, 10, 77 and 300K in the IR, visible and near UV range. Radiative and nonradiative transition rates in LaAlO3 were obtained applying the Judd–Ofelt theory. Additionally our study are supported by DFT calculations, which localize positions of the 4f and 5d ground levels of all divalent and trivalent lanthanides in the LAlO3 host. The density of states is discussed and interpreted in terms of the optical properties.
