Abstract

The photoconductivity of polystyrene films, doped with anthracene as donor and 7.7.8.8. tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ), tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and chloranil as acceptors, was investigated. It was found that polystyrene film containing (6:4) TCNQ to anthracene has the greatest photosensitivity (8.2). The electrical resistivities of the compounds used were found to be: anthracene 1.52 × 1014Ωcm, TCNQ 1.6 × 108Ωcm, TCNE 4.9 × 105Ωcm and chloranil 1.24 × 1014Ωcm. The activation energies of these compounds were also measured as 0.66, 0.51, 0.41 and 0.17 eV, respectively. The electronic absorption spectra of TCNQ-Anth., TCNQ and anthracene in polystyrene were measured in the region from 250 to 950 nm, in addition to their IR spectra. The charge transfer was found to be mainly dependent on the ionized TCNQ molecules formed.
