M. ; Maccacaro, T. ; Mereghetti, S. ; Stocke, John T. Abstract Thirteen stellar X-ray sources drawn from the Einstein Medium Sensitivity Survey (MSS) have been observed using high-resolution (0.1 Å) echelle spectroscopy. Of the ten stars which have spectral type later than F, six are shown to be binaries similar in some respects to other known active binary systems. One star (1E 0809.0+4809) meets the overall criteria to be an RS CVn candidate while another star (1E 1247.0-0548) is presented as a W UMa binary candidate. This sample is unique in that it is an X-ray, not optically, selected sample of active stars. The independent prediction that the previously unsuspected population of X-ray luminous late-type stars found in the MSS are likely to be binary stars is supported.
