Abstract

Sm3+-incorporated barium cerate (BCS) perovskites with different compositions have been prepared by the combustion method with citric acid as fuel. Powder XRD pattern of BaCeO3: Sm3+ confirms the production of orthorhombic BCS perovskite. The effect of concentration of trivalent samarium ions on the photoluminescence intensity is investigated. When excited with UV radiation, the photoluminescence spectra exhibited two emission peaks at 574 (4G5/2 →6H5/2) and 616 nm (4G5/2 →6H7/2) with 2 wt% of Sm3+ as the optimized concentration. Chromaticity values were obtained using CIE chromaticity diagram. The study showed that this perovskite can be a promising matrix for light-emitting devices. The obtained results discoursed in detail.
