Abstract

The investigation of silver clusters, prepared by the gas aggregation technique, sputtering or laser vaporization, using mass-or fluorescence spectroscopy for detection, provides new information of the influence of experimental parameters on the cluster size distribution. Especially the gas aggregation technique proves to be a very intense source generating metal clusters in narrow size distributions. This high intensity allows to measure multiple charged clusters below the calculated size limit. The observation of time resolved spectra of the cluster beam produced by laser vaporization allows to distinguish spectroscopically between different species. In the spectral range of 200 to 500 nm spectra of neutral and ionized atoms, dimers and larger molecules have been detected.
