Abstract

A novel of six mixed ligand metal complexes derived from the interaction of MnII, FeII, CoII, NiII, CuII and ZnII with gatifloxacin (GFLX) in presence of pregabalin (Preg) have been prepared and characterized with physiochemical, spectroscopic, thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and (DTG), molar conductivity and effective magnetic moments. The infrared data indicate that GFLX reacted with metal ion as bidentate ligand through one carboxylate oxygen and pyridone oxygen forming six membered ring stable complexes with octahedral geometry. The decomposition mechanisms for GFLX, Preg and the complexes using TG and DTG were done and thermodynamic parameter (E∗, ΔH∗, ΔS∗ and ΔG∗) have been calculated using Horowitz-Metzeger (HM) methods and Coats-Redfern (CR). The bond lengths, bond angles, total energy, heat of formation, dipole moment and and the lowest energy model structures of the complexes have been determined with DFT. The biological activities of the compounds were assayed against some selected bacterial and fungal strain. The results indicate that the present complexes have remarkable potency in comparing with the parent ligands and may serve as better bactericides.
