Abstract
Ninhydrin in 0.2M citrate buffer (pH 5) containing SnCl2 is proposed as a new reagent for Spectrophotometric determination of penicillins and analysis of their pharmaceutical formulations. The method is based on acid hydrolysis of penicillins with 5M HCl and subsequent treatment with ninhydrin. The resulting violet colour exhibits maximum absorption at 570 nm.
