Abstract

The results of a spectrophotometric investigation of the binary galaxy NGC 4922 are presented. One of the components is an elliptical galaxy with integrated absorption spectrum corresponding to the spectral classes GO-G3, while the second has the spectral features of a Seyfert nucleus with low degree of ionization. The physical conditions and chemical composition of the second component are also similar to those in a type 2 Seyfert galaxy. The mass of the Seyfert-like component within a radius of 1 kpc is found to be about 0.4.10/sup 8/M., and the mass of the complete system 2.2.10/sup 11/M.
