Abstract

n: n'-Bis-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)dithio-oxamide, a derivative of rubeanic acid, reacts with ruthenium in a strong hydrochloric acid solution to give a soluble blue complex which has been made the basis for the determination of trace quantities of the element. Optimum conditions for the use of the reagent have been studied. Well-known distillation techniques have been successfully applied to quantities of ruthenium ranging from 14.8 μg to 177.9 μg. The sensitivity is 0.020 μg cm 2 .
