Abstract
4-(2-Thiazolylazo)resorcinol forms a carmine red complex with niobium in an acetate-tartrate medium over the pH range 5–6. In the presence of ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid (EDTA) or diaminocyclohexanetetra-acetic acid (DCTA) the reaction is almost specific for niobium: only vanadium and more than a 7–10 times excess of molybdenum, titanium, uranium and thorium interfere.
