Abstract The star 48 Librae shows a strong metallic absorption spectrum which has developed during the last ten or twenty years. This spectrum shows appreciable dilution in the intensities of Mg ii and Si ii. The H lines consist of sharp cores superposed over broad wings. Hf3 and Ha are bright. The sharp-line spec- trum is attributed to a shell which resembles in the relative intensities of Ni n, Fe u, Cr ii, and Mn II the shell of Pleione as observed in 1940. But the Balmer jump in the shell of 48 Librae is much more con- spicuous than in Pleione. The shell of 48 Librae is fairly transparent in the ordinary photographic region but is essentially opaque on the violet side of X 3650. The strong shell lines are sharp but unsymmetrical, while the weaker lines, especially of Ti ii and Fe i, are somewhat diffuse. This suggests stratification. The emission lines of H have shown a marked variation in V/R. The radial velocity is variable.. The star MWC 93 has lost most of the expanding-shell characteristics observed by Merrill between 1928 and 1930 Publication: The Astrophysical Journal Pub Date: July 1943 DOI: 10.1086/144547 Bibcode: 1943ApJ....98...91S full text sources ADS | Related Materials (6) Part 1: 1940ApJ....91..546S Part 2: 1941ApJ....94..291S Part 3: 1942ApJ....95..152S Part 4: 1942ApJ....96..254S Part 5: 1943ApJ....97..194S Part 7: 1945ApJ...101..224S
