Abstract

This letter presents a new class of symmetric waveforms that is suitable for spectrally efficient ultra-wideband (UWB) pulse shaping. The waveforms are based on polynomially weighted Gaussian, where polynomials are constructed by imposing maximum flatness at the peak of the pulse’s amplitude spectrum. To perform pulse shaping, frequency shift and bandwidth scaling are applied. The proposed approach is illustrated with the design of UWB pulses that fill the FCC masks and provide high spectral efficiency. Compared to other Gaussian-based UWB waveforms, the proposed pulses have significantly higher spectral efficiency and slightly lower energy concentration.
