Abstract

This paper addresses the key question of decreasing the natural width of the spectral line of the oscillation by way of mutually coupling three oscillators through phase-locked technique. The pressnt study considers in detail, the effect of phase lock mutual coupling on the statistical characteristics of the individual oscillators with particular emphasis on the long-term frequency stability of the various oscillations generated by the system. It has been shown that by judiciously proportioning the system parameters, the long-term frequency stability of the different oscillators can be improved to a large extent over the stability of the oscillators when operated independently. It has further been shown that unlike in the case of mutually-coupled oscillators, the improvement in the long-term stability in this case is not accompanied by the deterioration of the short-term stability of the oscillations. The present system can also be used to generate a number of standard frequency signals.
