Abstract

We report spectral line shapes which resemble window resonance profiles or hole-burning profiles of the resonance lines of barium and lithium using a thermionic diode detector. It is shown that the observed peculiar line shapes arise from the reduction in the space-charge potential barrier height in the detector when a large number of ions are produced in the detector rather than from any atomic parameter.
