Abstract

Weinberg's spectral function sum rules have been studied in a free quark model with SU(3) breaking à la Gell-Mann, that is, the free quark Lagrangian is split into a SU(3) symmetric kinetic part, a SU(3) singlet leading to non-conservation of axial vector current and a SU(3) octet transforming like the eight-component leading to SU(3) breaking. The second sum rule modifies in this model. Though this particular model has been used as a guide to the structure of the sum rules the rules themselves are hopefully of much greater generality. The parameters representing the effect of symmetry breaking have been calculated and some applications of these sum rules have been investigated.
