Abstract

A novel approach is proposed for spectral efficiency enhancement of multiresolution multiplexing (MM), when carrier to noise is low. MM is introduced as a baseband multiple-input, multiple-output system. The reliable capacity bound is discussed for MM, when successive interference cancellation algorithm is used as optimal detector at receiver. The spectral efficiency of the enhanced MM is evaluated and compared with the spectral efficiency of quadrature amplitude modulation of the same constellation size. A basic adaptive loading design towards spectral efficiency enhancement is presented.
