Abstract

A new method of producing single picosecond dye laser pulses at different wavelengths is described. It is based on the spectro-temporal evolution of the intracavity laser intensity above threshold. Spectral filtering of the output from a sweeping oscillator pumped with a standard 8 ns Nd: YAG pulse is shown to produce, in a two-stage system, a nearly transform-limited, single, 3 μJ, 16 ps pulse.
