Strömgren, Bengt ; Gyldenkerne, K. Abstract A method of two-dimensional spectral classification of G and K stars, based on photoelectric photometry with interference filters, is described. Indices measuring the strength of the K line, the discontinuity at the G band, and the cyanogen band strength are utilized. A comparison is made with spectral classification on the Verkes MK system and with color indices. An accuracy corresponding to a probable error (one determination) of about 0.02 of a spectral class is achieved.
