Abstract

An experimental investigation was made of the spontaneous luminescence spectrum of XeCl* in the wavelength range 300<λ<311 nm. A calculation of the luminescence spectrum due to the B→X transition was in satisfactory agreement with the experiments and made it possible to reconstruct the distribution of the XeCl* (B) molecules over the vibrational levels. A calculation of the permittivity of the active medium within the gain band enabled an estimate to be made of the increase in the divergence of the light beam resulting from resonant dispersion.
