Abstract

The theory of short-pulse amplification presented by Frantz and Nodvik for homogeneously broadened media is extended to include broad spectral bandwidth input signals. The output intensity, energy gain and spectral narrowing of the amplified radiation pulse is studied. In the small and large signal regimes, approximate analytic expressions are obtained and compared with numerical results.
