Abstract

ABSTRACT Wave groups are a concern for coastal engineers in the design of coastal and off-shore structures. In this study, a method for spectral transformation of a set of wave group time histories, obtained from laboratory wave tank tests, is demonstrated through combining empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and multi-taper method (MTM). The waves and their envelopes were decomposed using EMD to obtain spectral relationship between them using MTM. The characteristic parameters of the wave groups; significant wave height (Hs), group height factor (GHF) and length factor (GLF), estimated from the spectra are found to have linear relationship from the limited data.
