Abstract

Summary The mitochondrial electron transport system contains 2, and possibly 3, types of cytochrome b . The different spectral properties of cytochromes b in complexes II and III are described. Succinate dehydrogenase combines with the cytochrome b -rich fraction of complex II to reconstitute succinate-ubiquinone reductase activity, but does not do so when added to complex III which is another cytochrome b -rich fraction of the respiratory chain.
