Abstract

A new azo nickel chelate (Ni(azo) 2) thin film has been developed for digital versatile disc recordable (DVD-R) by means of a spin-coating method. The absorption and reflectivity of the film matches very well with the wavelength of the GaAlInP semiconductor diode laser (650 nm). Optical parameters of the thin film were measured by a spectroscopic ellipsometer system. Thermal property of azo nickel chelate indicated that the rapid decomposition of the dye happens in the narrow temperature zone. The performance of DVD-R disc of the Ni(azo) 2 thin film exhibited that low jitter and high modulated amplitude could be achieved under optimistic write power.
