Abstract

A new analysis technique has been developed for separating the Rayleigh and Mie components from the backscattered LIDAR signal. The possibility of separately analysing these two spectra allows the useful derivation of wind, temperature, backscatter ratio and molecular densities from any signal for the first time. Monte-Carlo simulations have been used to determine the errors on the derived parameters. The technique is also compared with other analysis methods.
