Abstract

This work was dedicated to studying spectral characteristics of LiYF4 crystals, doping with different concentrations of Pr3+ in the range from 0.3 to 2.0 at.%. The polarized absorption spectra, emission spectra and fluorescence decay curves were investigated detailly. By introducing the Judd-Oflet (J-O) method, J-O intensity parameters Ωt (t=2,4,6) and radiative lifetimes were calculated. Moreover, to characterize 1D2 near-infrared (NIR) emission characteristics, emission cross sections σem and optical gain factors σemτf were further analyzed. The results show that 2.0 at.% Pr:YLF crystal is a better candidate for near-infrared transitions, having the highest absorption coefficient at 593.5 nm and the largest emission cross sections within these crystals.
